The Naked Trader Radio Show Xmas and New Year
Podcast! It's here...

>

Lots of chat about shares, the markets, xmas
rally, psychology, plus win £200 by just finding the
word Christmas.

Plus tons of entertainment! The wedding songs you should
never play, there's nostalgia corner, the best and worst Xmas
and party music, your contributions and we start with the
NT news headlines read by posh newsreader Ben Footsie.
This is the last edition of the site till 2019 so may I wish
you seasons greetings and all that stuff.

I've had a wonderful time meeting so many lovely people at
seminars this year. Had a lot of fun at the dec 3rd and 10th
events.

If you missed those, new date is Feb 4th, see above for details.

Goodness me! I am looking forwards to shortly
chilling out by the pool in the sun after a very hectic
couple of weeks!

A lot of December style high jinks! Parties, events,
two seminars, get togethers, football, school things.

I can't remember the last time I just enjoyed a night on the
sofa watching telly. That is definitely tonight!

The highlight probably
going to the Jingle Bell ball at the 02.

We went with our son and his friend and had a great time.

Got a river boat up there from the London Eye which is
a lovely way to travel.

Lots of great acts to watch - of which the number one had
to be Jason Derulo. What a star he is!

Head and shoulders above the other acts in showmanship
and star quality. Great entertainment too.

Second in quality had to be the DJ Jax Jones. Been a fan
for a long time and he really got the place buzzing with
some amazing tunes and routines.

That climaxed with about 50 dancing Father Christmases!

He is such a talented guy. A big surprise at the follow up
to meet a delegate with pictures of Jax Jones in a suit..
at the wedding of his daughter's best friend!

And in third place Clean Bandit, top of the tree in
musicianship.

Good efforts too from Little Mix and Zara Larrson.

But the stinker of the night was "Cheryl". Absolutely
dire. That wasn't just the poor singing but the dancing
and effort was very under par.

I think she needs to quit and become a full-time judge.

She was so lame that even the young girls there to cheer
her were subdued.

The food at the 02 is simply the pits. Eat before you go.

Your choice: a nuked "Burger" or a soggy "Pizza". Oh,
and that'll be £12 - and £3 if you want a coke or a water.

Better to eat in the shopping centre just outside. I feel
sorry for families. It must be £100 plus just to fill
the kids full of crap.

But away from that the organisers did well with a lively,
fun and enjoyable event.

The event totally overran but the river boat waited for us all
but we didn't leave till near midnight and we were all
very late to bed.

Sadly for me I was woken at 6.30am by the alarm, guess what
I had a follow up seminar to do that day and I wondered
how on earth I was going to find the energy!

A dash to the hotel and lots and lots of coffee and English
breakfast.

But, it was so great to see so many people I've come to know
and really like over the years that the energy soon
came flooding in.

We ended up having a great day, some interesting trades
came up. My tiredness did cause me to buy something
I hadn't meant to, to much hilarity.

Enjoyed some time in the bar afterwards, it's just like a
group of old friends.

They are all such interesting people too! I wish
I could namecheck everyone. Hi to Fiona and thanks
for the chocolates! Well done to Keith for winning
the competition and picking up £100.

One of the delegates was a CakeBox franchisee so
interesting tales of running Cakebox shops.

Oh and I ought to thank Mark for his amazing performance
as air conditioning monitor at the beginners/improvers one!

Had a great Xmas lunch at both and I know no-one went
home hungry.

Glad some of you already feel more confident about making your
own way with shares. Just remember what I taught you about
making a plan and being ruthless in cutting. And keep working
on the supply and demand bit. It will really help you decide
whether or not to buy something.

I can hardly believe Christopher has already finished his
first term as a weekly boarder, he has really enjoyed it and
we love the school.

He's also enjoyed playing football against the best
footballing sides in the south east.

Sadly our premiere league team Fulham looks like they
may be headed back to the championship after some
dire defending.

The arm of Mrs NT has at last improved, just as well as we
leave for the warm sunshine soon.

No more terrible cooking and bad kitchen hygiene from
me - that five second rule is right... isn't it?

Thanks for your feedback on the NT New Year Radio Show..
I know it won't please everyone and just treat it as a bit
of fun.

Don't forget to count the Xmases - £200 is not to be
sniffed at and there haven't been any entries at all yet!

Great to meet the newer investors/traders at the Dec beginners/improvers
event.

Lots of lovely people, enjoyed the Xmas lunch, crackers etc! And lots
of great chats. Thanks for the lovely feedback.

If you missed the Xmas seminar make a new year's resolution to join me for a day on Feb 4th next year.
Mail me at robbiethetrader
for details with "Feb seminar interested" in the subject line. There is
a current very early bird discount.
Thanks to you all for feedback on the events and I know some of you
are already happily following the rules.

It seems self-obsessed to print all the feedback but why not
just one from Paul...

Thanks for a brilliant day. It provided much needed focus
which was refreshing and enjoyable. The venue was
great, food excellent and I would highly recommend
the seminars to others."

Thanks Paul.

Naked Rambling

Anyone fancy taking David Cameron and sticking him
in the stocks so we can chuck things at his head?

No-one has still told me one benefit of leaving the EU.
All there is are negatives.

If you ask one of the loons like Mogg they just waffle
about "taking our country back" and nonsense.

This is where confirmation bias comes into play. Just like
in share buying.

Someone with CB (most investors) decide to buy and will
hang on forever even if the share has had a profit warning
and should obviously be sold. But no, they were right !!

Same with the Brexit people. Despite all the evidence that
getting out will cause years of hardship lost jobs and a worse
economy they will never admit they got it wrong.

T May battles on! Like her or not, what a stickler.

I'd have stood at number 10 and blown a fuse.

Eff you all I'm off!" If she had done that you couldn't blame
her.

But, no she carries on. I admire that. And I really think she
thinks she is doing the best she can under the circumstances.
She works hard .

Can you imagine Boris as boss? He comes across as
lazy and just wings it. He has winged it all his life. And
that just isn't going to work.

I'm happy as my bets at 50-1 and 33-1 on Sajid Javed
being the next boss look decent. He wouldn't have
got it this time but further down the line...

He's now at 6-1 and I can even cash out now at a profit!

It really is time someone bald was in charge Men
with hair are totally useless as bosses.

Please don't send me a Xmas "ecard",

Either send a card properly or don't!

It's been a decent year for TV. Mrs Wilson proved
an excellent series even better that it was true.

What was the public thinking voting off Noel Edmonds
after just nine days. He picked up £600,000 thank you
very much!

Never mind, Harry won and rightly so. It was all
a bit subdued this time round.

The Apprentice ended up entertaining as ever except
for the art episode though Lord High Admiral Sugar
really needs to hire a new scriptwriter. I'll do it for
a tenner.

Not long to wait for the
Game of Thrones final series. Anyone want to come
round to mine dressed up? No thongs please.

The papers report today if someone at a party is boring
you and you need to get away, do a lot of blinking.

Apparently this puts them off and they leave you alone fast.

I have some better ways.

Oh no, I have a terrible nosebleed
coming on, got to dash to the loo, sorry!" is one
thing I use, running off, clutching nose.

If it is a really desperate party ask the holder if you
can take their dog for a quick walk.

I don't have a dog and would so love to.." Works
a treat.

SEMINAR NEWS
New date Feb 4th 2019 near Heathrow
Email me for details at robbiethetrader with "Feb seminar interested". There is
a current very early bird discount
Beginners and improvers welcome. Come and spend the day with me, the markets and some lovely people - and of course, lunch, lots of sugary snacks.

My seminars are designed for beginners, dabblers and improvers and deals with everything from how to look for winners, how to research, spreadbetting, level 2 use how to time trades and short, how to use advfn properly and run your portfolio without having to spend money on systems and tipsters.. and tons more.

A lot of the day comes directly from the live markets and I show you many of the tricks I use to get good prices live. And there might even be the odd live trade or 2!
Some recent feedback:

He actually takes you candidly right into the mental process involved in his successful trading, making it a pretty amazing display, even showing his own investment accounts right there on the screen. This is a genuine coaching session in how to trade like him if you put in the graft. My advice therefore would be to sign up for this while he is still prepared to do it.'

When I signed up to your course my goal was to make 20% p.a., I've achieved that in less than six months. Your course was pretty much going to be my last attempt at trading, So once again thank you, it's by far the best money I've ever spent on trading education and probably on education full stop."
I felt we were in for a long day of numbers, PowerPoints and dry talk.
Instead, what we got was fascinating and enjoyable mix of punchy insights, merriment and wise-cracks, sharp wit, and to the point no nonsense advice. I sat down at 9:45am and didn't look at the time again until way after 8pm at which point I had to drag myself away."
I read your books and understood the words "" however I was missing that final nugget of knowledge "" actually seeing you valuate a company and make that buy/no buy decision live means I now get it."

EMAILS: I do beg you not to send me emails asking me for advice on a particular share. It isn't legal for me to give you individual advice and all I do is send you a mail saying that, which wastes a lot of my time and yours too.

****
COPYING TRADES: I can't stop you from copying a trade I made but remember the price may already be a lot higher than I paid indeed I hope it is as buying at good prices is what I do for a living. You may be buying at the top and could easily lose money. Also I can make terrible mistakes and have done in the past. I could also sell before you or before the share tanks. I may still be holding in a year when you sold at a loss. Always do your own research, don't jump in blindly. Market makers are very clever at knowing how to make you pay top dollar and then push you out at a loss. This site is about sensible investment and learning how to trade sensibly and is not a tipping site. Beware. Never push buy on anything till you've done proper research and got yourself a sensible price.

Well, I guess those of you who've only known an easier
bull market have now experienced what a down and
volatile market is like.

Pants, basically. It's almost impossible to get through
it making a decent profit and in muddy waters my aim
is simply to not lose the excellent gains from earlier
in the year and if I can break even by holding on
to the good ones, making from shorts and picking
up decent dividends that's fine.

I lost some paper money from the main isa over the last month
but made up for it and more with various shorts and my
biggest ever wins on ftse shorts as those of you who
came to the seminars saw, profits of well over £130,000.

I have banked most of that now though kept open a couple
made near the top as a souvenir. I'm gradually going
long for the Xmas rally but tempered this year as there
are so many variables not usually around that might
halt things.

This is usually around when the rally starts but
it could be very volatile this time round so care
is needed. I please ask you not to email me about
the rally as I can't tell you when to/what to do.

There is a whole
chapter on it in the Naked Trader Guide to
Spreadbetting Edition 2 (get it on this site or
amazon for next day delivery).

As I said this year it has to be approached with some caution
because of so many influences and political turmoil,
Brexit causing big effects.

The FTSE goes up on a weak pound so any Brexit
uncertainty or bad news pushes it up as so many
FTSE 100 cos are dollar denominated.

Main thing is to be careful of the stake and even
a fiver stake could suddenly cause a loss of £1,000
say if the FTSE went down 200 points in a day.

So work out how much you can afford to lose first
if you are giving it a go. It has worked over many
recent years but there will always be a year when
it won't so be careful! One idea might even be to
switch to a Dow rally which would take out any
Brexit effect.

Tiniest spread is here at just 0.8 on the FTSE

Back to talking dividends it surprised me, but adding them
all up, including a massive sum to arrive Friday
from Telecom Plus it comes to over £75,000. Amazing.

A lot my holdings pay out 3-6 per cent and you kind of
forget about dividends as they come in as cash and
I never click on that bit.

Including dividends overall it has been an excellent year.
I managed to get into a load of cash from October which
worked well and currently sit in about 60% cash overall.

The shares left I feel are all good ones and will probably
leave them now.

I have got lots of firepower to pick up bargain shares which
are appearing all over the place.
I've already started gradually picking up packets of shares
which look totally oversold from panicked holders.

Indeed I have put up buys on the order books on shares
with big spreads to try and pick up shares from panickers
or forced sellers very cheaply. Sometimes I get them
sometimes I don't.
I bought some H&T (HAT).
Some live at the follow up seminar - got in
two lots both on direct market access so buying
at the "sell price" in effect.

(That's something I teach at seminars, gets a trade
off to a flying start as you start at zero rather than a loss)

This pawnbroker looks to be well oversold - it has
a big high street presence, no point me telling you
what it does, we all know.

But it trades on a very low rating now and it really
just looks too low so I have bought with a view to it
heading back to the 300p level. It has picked up some
debt but nothing anywhere near my limits.

There is also a tasty 5% dividend so it's a nice isa
tuckaway. Support looks firm in the 230s at the moment.

I picked up some more Hollywood Bowl (BOWL)
on weakness ahead of results.

A real cash cow this one - bowling continues to be
very popular and Bowl is carrying on looking at buying
up sites and refurbishing.

Shareholders are being rewarded with a massive
dividend including a special cash payout early
next year.

This share appears to be a .. strike!

Kainos (KNOS) was another brought to the seminar by
a delegate (ok then regular attender Rob!) and I managed to buy some live on the
day again getting the sell price using DMA.

Very strong growth here and it's on a deserved premium rating
which I felt was worth paying. It also has a giant net
cash pile.

It's in a sweet spot in digital technology services and works
in government, finance and health.

Another nice long-term isa idea!

I also bought some Kape. This one has plenty
of potential and a mountain of cash on its side.
It will be interesting to see how the cash is put
to use next year.

Colefax (CFX) came up at the follow up seminar, chosen
by a delegate. Looks like another nice isa tuckaway.

It specialises in high end decoration, furniture and
is breaking into the US market very nicely.
Profits keep gradually rising, it has a lot of net
cash and pays a decent dividend. Looks
quality and a worthy long-term isa entrant.

As broadcast on the Xmas and new year podcast,
I bought some Scapa (SCPA) Another share which looks to have
been oversold in a down market.

The shares got marked down as profit fell but that
was mainly due to acquisition costs. Profits should
start to rise for next year.

Directors have come in and bought their own
shares including the CEO which is a vote of
confidence and the shares could have a decent
2019 with plenty of upside potential.

And the final bit of bargain hunting brought me to
gambling firm 888.

888 has been severely hit by the ad curb and
other curbs on gambling.

But I reckon this is now well oversold. The US is a whole
new market opening up and at the current price if
I was a bigger rival I would be making a serious
bid for 888.

Profits are still excellent, the outlook is much better and
it has a ton of cash.

Of course there is the falling knife risk so I would even
so be out for a loss if I had to.

On the sell side I took profits on a lot of shorts that
really paid out in the downturn and thank you to Santa
for the profits. Shares often rise for the next two weeks
so seems worth cashing in the shorts for now and
maybe re-visit next year.

Restaurant Group short yielded £1,695 profit.

Just Eat short was closed for a profit of £1,140. The
Rightmove short paid out £480.

Sports Direct paid out £1980 so profits from those
4 recent shorts pay out a total £5,295.

The marks and spencers short is in massive profit but
feel more downside next year so may stay in for more.

I also banked a long termer - Burford, a very nice profit of
£21,904. It went up four times and seemed on the
way down so I felt it was time to bank the cash! The last nmc went for
a profit of £3,280 after it well surpassed target, holding
the rest.

So a total profit banked then of £30,479

Overall my best share of the year has been Sopheon.
It's doubled to a decent stake so much profit on that.
I think there is more to come from Sopheon.

And Ab Dynamics, the car testing firm shares have motored
up and again, I think there is more to come from these
shares in 2019.

Quickest biggest profit of the year was Cakebox with more
than £5,000 banked in a short time.

No absolute stinkers this year thanks to tight stops and
get out quick policy which did save me on a couple that
could have been nasty.

Next year will be interesting. We haven't had a bear market
for a while so it would be no surprise and I expect to
start next year in plenty of cash.

Whatever your plans. Good luck! As it's Xmas and time for giving so glad some of you have
joined silverline with me and are now making calls to
the lonely elderly.

It's easy enough to give money away - a good slug of seminar
profits now go to a very good cause - but not so easy to
give up time especially in the new tech era when everyone
is always on a device.

So if you think you can give just half an hour or an hour up
a week sign up to be a volunteer at You will
find it so rewarding and I have enjoyed so many chats with
the elderly this year. There is great training too.

I will leave you with:

EXTRA INCOME FROM HOME

When I left my full-time job to trade it really helped having another income: this I got from part-time selling energy and phone services to people and getting a cut of their use of their home services forever! I still get enough from it now to pay all my bills. I am a great believer in multiple incomes and this is a great one in my opinion as anyone could do it.

Trade tables follow! Trades are current open and recently closed trades. Closed trades feature the closing price and the amount I won or lost. All others are open. Trades get updated a little later than the narrative. Trading costs are ignored, however I also do not add in dividend payments and with the kinds of companies I buy, dividends tend to equal or outweigh costs. Spread rollovers ignored for web purposes.
