Camping it up
** My new book - about spreadbetting - is out on August 23rd, you can pre-order it here:

***
Oh no! Yes, this weekend I'll be lying on the ground in a field.
A long time ago I agreed to go camping because August seemed a long way off but apparently it's here.
I remember thinking, come on Robbie, you know you hate camping, just for once kick yourself out of that boring comfort zone.
At least on your deathbed you can say "Yes, I really tried camping,"
That is probably not strictly true given the tent will already be up. But I will have to sleep on the ground.
And suppose given we are camping at a pop festival surrounded by 100s of others and all the food and drink you need probably isn't real camping eithere.
Yes the three of us are off to Camp Bestival (www.campbestival.net to read all about it) in deepest Dorset.
Christopher is totally excited and even I'm, well, intrigued... There's a pretty decent line up of songsters including Madness and Calvin Harris along with comedians, DJs and other entertainers.
A friend of ours and his daughter is also coming to Camp Bestival. They're real campers though. Yes, bringing their own tent and actually sticking it up.
The headline act is 80s group Madness. Our friend has warned us he will "do his Madness dance".
I can tell you this: If I am anywhere near him when he doing his dance I do not know him and he definitely is not with me, ok?
Hmm, tricky when you get older. Should you just do the dad dance and risk ridicule? Or be dignified and let the youngsters shake their stuff?
We're not sure what we should be taking with us except probably a torch. Oh, and I'm guessing I'll probably have to wee in a bottle overnight? Is that how it works?
Well, a full report on the weekend events coming up here probably next Wednesday.
Thanks to those of you who wrote to me about my experience with the poncy two star Michelin food in Devon! Lots of mails from people in Cornwall offering curries!
Do not worry - we shan't be doing Michelin for a while and we already had a good curry this week!
All sorts going on here - me and Christopher continue to do lots of exciting things and Mrs NT's sister is staying here for a couple of weeks - she's over from New York.
To the delight of his parents the lad asked if we could go to a bookshop today to do some reading! My goodness - so this afternoon we are off to Waterstones which is why this update is earlier than usual!
It really is all go and I hope the markets stay quiet for August.
Talking markets, hi to all of you who came to my seminar on Monday, it was a pleasure to host such a lovely bunch of people.
When I arrived at the seminar hotel and got to my room I had an important message waiting for me.
Yes, to thank me for my "exceptional loyalty" I could phone room service for an "arrival gift!"
I could either have "home made cookies" (who made them in whose house?), or an "exotic fruit platter" - presumably that's tinned pineapple? I decided not to take up the very generous offer.
What I did think was: Am I paying too much for my room?
Well done for those of you who had stayed in the nearby Travelodge for staying awake the whole day.
Unfortunately a number of delegates spent most of the night awake because the fire alarm there kept going off.
Something wrong with it. A common problem in a lot of hotels.
Though apparently you're all getting a refund, well £25 better than nothing!
I think the amount of coffee drunk and chocs eaten on the day came to a new record because so many of you needed a boost. I think given a lot of you would have been forgiven for being grumpy, you really weren't.
Great to meet so many interesting people. Huge age and occupation range from 20 to 75 - every job you could imagine, from policeman to accountant, from truck driver to teacher. The thing about the markets is it doesn't matter what you do or what your background is.
And as usual it's fun to meet so many people motivated to better their lives.
Congrats to those of you with the stamina (especially those of you kept awake by the fire alarms) to stay on for the 9.30 finish!
Some excellent contributions as usual from delegates and hopefully we all learned a thing or two during the day.
Thanks for the feedback that's been coming in and glad some of you feel inspired afterwards.
Paul and Anita thanks for that lovely bottle of wine for our anniversary. It's really kind of you and much appreciated, maybe we will take it camping with us!
Mel, well done on winning £250 odd in the FTSE competition - that was a spectacularly good guess!
And regards to my most excited beginner - how shall we put this? Mrs Kea!
Enjoyed my chat with the last two of you standing in the bar - I've had an invite to Dubai so if we go we now have someone to show us around!
I'm glad especially the beginners found it worthwhile - remember the level 2 part takes a while to sink in and I suggest to start playing with it with your favourite stocks first. I do wish you all the best.
For those of you who missed this one the next seminar is on Friday September 24th.
It'll be at Heathrow as usual - mail me at robbiethetrader@aol.com if interested with "Autumn seminar" in the subject line. I'll send you details. There is a decent early booking discount on right now.
Beginners and improvers welcome for September! Come and spend the day with me, the markets and some lovely people - and of course, lunch!
If you mail me I will then send you details and a full agenda of what is covered. Also more details below somewhere.
My seminars are designed for beginners, dabblers and improvers and deals with everything from how to look for winners, how to research, spreadbetting, level 2 use how to time trades and short, how to use advfn properly and run your portfolio without having to spend money on systems and tipsters.. and tons more.
A lot of the day comes directly from the live markets and I show you many of the tricks I use to get good prices live. And there might even be the odd live trade or 2!
After saying "No" for so many years, I'm doing a one off follow up seminar only for those of you who've been before. It would be a quick refresh but mainly all about timing and we'd be doing level 2, placing orders on the live markets all day.
We'd also scan for shares and research them live on the day. It'll be on Sept 17th. If interested mail me at robbiethetrader@aol.com with "Follow up seminar" in the subject line. I can then judge whether enough of you are interested enough for me to do it.
After the success of the last couple, there will be another TA seminar with top trader Susan, on Dec 4th. If you're interested in learning all about TA from a brilliant trainer, don't miss it. Susan's lessons in TA will help you take the emotion out of trading. Mail me with "TA interested" in the subject line. You must have been to one of my normal ones.
Spreadbetting firm Tradefair Spreads has upped its offer exclusively to Naked Trader readers to a £100 credit. This offer is exclusive to me and not available anywhere else...
I've been using them for a few weeks to check that I'm happy with the service. As you know I don't take ads or allow referrals on the site unless it's a company I've used and I feel confident about.
What I like about it is it's easy to use, spreads are surprisingly tight on the smaller companies and interestingly an automated stop loss is applied to each trade - so beginners know what their max loss is from the outset.
Anyway they now offer a £100 credit as long as you deposit £100. You get the credit after you placed 5 trades (Terms and conditions apply)
If you'd like to apply for an account with Tradefair Spreads and get the freebie click this link:

The number of emails to me is nearly reaching saturation point and I'm struggling! I'm getting 100s which is lovely in a way but killing me in another.
The main problem is the length of some of them, indeed some run to the length of novels, so, please, help save my eyes and please keep mails to under 150 words.. you can do it! It's close to the stage where I am going to have to say I will answer all mails but those over 200 words will get deleted. Keep them short and sweet, please!!
Also, it's possible the answer you seek from me is already in FAQ's. And do remember I can't discuss individual shares with you as it would be classified as investment advice which I'm not authorised to give.
Many of you enjoy the cheap advfn toplists bronze deal through me as do many of you with the cheap level 2. However many of you say you want a half-way house to include real-time share prices always on.
So I'm pleased to announce I've managed to seal a new deal with Advfn for its "Silver" service - that's always on real-time share prices for a good saving (Bronze toplists etc are included in this).
The deal is via me you can save £30 for your first year by paying just £138.06 inc vat via me instead of £167.47.
Just mail me for full details if you'd like it with "silver" in the subject line.
Those of you looking for some extra income could be interested here:

So for free you can sign up and get this shopping site for yourself. What's brilliant is any product you want type it into the search and it will come up with it, which store it is at and where it is cheapest, then buy it and earn commission on your spend!
Everytime you buy anything yourself on your site you get commission.. So if you normally shop online anyway it's a no brainer: just use your own site instead of going direct and get some commission every time you shop.
Then you just get some friends to sign up and get their own site too - when they do online shopping using their mall, you get commission too. Simple as that.
They've just re-published "The Zulu Principle" by Jim Slater who's written a 2008 update at the beginning.
This is a brilliant classic book. Reading this is a real pleasure and it was a great idea to republish.
Jim believes like I do the best gains can come from smaller stocks and in an easy to read style takes you through how to evaluate smaller companies that are about to become bigger ones - he uses some excellent examples.
Really this is a must read for all more longer-term investors or anyone looking to grow their money... a number of you have also written to me about this book and praising it.
Here is the link to buy it:

Here's a very topical one: The Little Book of Bull Moves in Bear Markets by Peter Schiff.
The book is all about how to keep portfolios up in a down market. He focusses a lot on how to play commodities and win with some sensible advice especially on natural resources and precious metals. He is very much a realist and there is no rubbish here: some straight talking and some interesting strategies.
Everyone who invests should think seriously about keeping portfolios up in bad times so this book should be read.
Well worth picking up at this link:

I've had heaps and heaps of praise from many of you regarding The Financial Spreadbetting book.
The book really seems to have helped a lot of you understand spreadbetting a lot more than you did. You say it's really helped you with ideas too. The writer deserves commendation. With the ability to go short so important in these volatile markets, it's a must read. To order click this link... http://books.global-investor.com/books/23307.htm?ginPtrCode=10453
Several people have asked me for a recommendation on a book which shows how to study accounts in a reasonably easy way. The one I like the most is http://books.global-investor.com/books/15717.htm?ginPtrCode=10453 by Robert Leach. Ten crunch questions to ask before buying any company.
It' s a decent easy-to-read book with several key chapters and it's highly recommended. It's one I keep and dip into from time to time. To order, click this link... http://books.global-investor.com/books/15717.htm?ginPtrCode=10453
The best book on charting and easiest read on the subject is http://books.global-investor.com/books/15618.htm?ginPtrCode=10453 by Alistair Blair. Click here -> http://books.global-investor.com/books/15618.htm?ginPtrCode=10453
Another good one is the second edition of http://books.global-investor.com/books/23792.htm?ginPtrCode=10453 by Peter Temple. Included in this one is how to use spreadbetting, CFD's warrants and trackers to reduce risk. And there are some decent trading strategies too.
This is an excellent book for new investors and also experienced ones. It explains all the things you may not be sure about in the markets and will explain the tools that are there. Naked Trader Seminar Latest News
Fancy spending a day with me, learning all the ways I have learned over the years to find good shares and play the markets? Well, you can at one of my seminars!
Booking is now open for a special extra summer hols Naked Trader seminar on Friday Sept 24th.
Price is £495 plus vat. But there is an early bookers discount!
That includes three course lunch, coffees, snacks etc.
The seminar is mainly aimed at beginners and dabblers though improvers are welcome too.
Topics covered using live market feeds all day include: Market psychology, level 2 - a simple guide to how to use it for better timing; how to value companies; finding companies that are about to rise. I will also cover techniques for handling events such as the recent meltdown and volatility.
Spreadbetting: How to use it to gain an edge and go short. Market makers - how they work and how to beat them; how to stop losing money and make it instead and plenty more.
How to plan trade entries and exits - how to research companies and understand reports, plus all those niggly questions you always wanted to ask. How to set stop losses and targets. Charts and how to use them.
Also covered: Market maker tricks: How to spot tree shakes and use them in your favour, How to tell when NOT to buy a share. I use live ADVFN all day with lots of level 2 and looks at all kind of live market data.
The idea behind the seminar is SIMPLICITY. I don't use jargon or fancy words - everything is in PLAIN ENGLISH! No question is too stupid and the event is held in a friendly relaxed and supportive environment.
The idea is you will come away from the event I hope a wise and better investor with lots of new ideas. I try and translate complex topics into easy bite size pieces. I also aim for it to be entertaining as well as instructive.
If you are interested please e-mail me at robbiethetrader@aol.com with "seminar interested" in the subject line and I will send you full details of the event including comments from those who have come to previous seminars and you can then decide whether you would like to come. See you there!
One seminar attendee Clare wanted to write a testimonial about her experiences at the seminar which follows now!
"I've just come back buzzing from one of Robbie's seminars. What a day! He's just brilliant, and manages to pack an awful lot into one day, and with his enthusiastic and humorous delivery the day just flies by. There are no gimmicks, no sell, no "˜get-rich-quick' promises, just his own solid, sound approach which he has learnt over the years and which works.
He shows you how to minimise the risks and maximise the profits and points out the banana skins on the way. Where the seminar really comes into its own is when he teaches using live level 2. Hearing him talk through his thought processes and reasoning is invaluable, and really brings home everything from the book. He has endless patience answering peoples' questions, and really seems to care that everybody understands.
On top of that, you meet some really nice like minded people and swap e mail addresses, you're plied with
chocolates and coffee all day, have a great lunch and spend the evening getting tiddled with Robbie in the
bar afterwards! You might even get to see the amazing crocodile boots . . . .
Don't worry about the cost, it's easily worth it, and you'll soon make it back with your new-found investment skills, and in what you're no longer losing. If you're thinking of going along to his next seminar, whether you're a novice or an experienced trader, don't hesitate ""just go!
Thanks Clare, did you want the tenner in cash, or will a cheque do?

Naked Rambling
Everyone's going away, parliament is shut and so is the news.
So get set for a load of idiotic crazy headlines from sub editors who have to make up stuff out of nothing.
Cue this from the Mail:
"It's a jungle out there: Tarantulas breeding in Bolton, housewife finds snake in washing machine and flying ants across Britain."
Golly. I'm really scared...
I see the Barclays bros are bailing out of Intercontinental Hotels.
Hey, they are just following me... I bailed out of using them last year. Talk about Fawlty Towers....
Mobile phones have 18 times more bacteria than a toilet handle apparently. Just as well I don't have one then.
Yes, really. People can call me when I'm at home or leave a message! If I'm out then I don't want to be hassled by a phone ringing!
Have you noticed a problem with Dragons Den that has arisen in this series?
Those that get offers only seem interested in offers from Peter or Theo. Poor old James and Deb seem a bit sidelined.
In fact Deb makes offers with others but never gets the gig. And Peter's ego is growing with each show.
"Of course I can add more value than any other dragon," he tells one successful candidate. "I own the company you need to be dealing with...."
Personally I think those two who ran the security firm were mad to give any of their successful business away. Alternatively maybe they figured the TV exposure would be worth it...
And who knows maybe you'll see me on there next year with my exciting invention (patent still waiting!)
What's happening on Big Brother? You know what? I just can't be bothered to find out.
The spreadbetting firm I use for sports betting is here: via this link Via this link Sporting Index offers £100 credit to new clients. The offer is if you open an account and place 5 bets Please check terms and conditions
http://www.sportingindex.com/?tpid=6755
Do remember if you do bet you ought to treat sports spreadbetting as entertainment - and expect to lose! Also with spreadbetting work out what your max loss could be and make sure you can afford it! In other words if you say backed the favourite at 15 for a fiver and they come nowhere your max loss is £75.
Naked Mail
A huge thank you for your great productive seminar yesterday 26th July.
I wish I was more fresh to get even more out of your great effort and energy in the evening when you were company searching and going through thorough research on screening them through your detective work, way out of my head! Hard work , ha?!!!!!,...
Due to the Travel Lodge fire alarm incident, I just had 2 hour sleep so to keep eyes open and most of all my BRAIN sharp after 5 pm, was hard work but wow how great it was. Thank you so much. I am sure I missed loads when I left at 8 pm .
With your great sense of humour and wealth of expertise, on my mind, you will remain a great role model as a successful trader and perhaps one day if it is meant in this life, I can acquire your smart style! Wish you ongoing great success with your trading and most of all health and happiness and if god willing hope to see you again perhaps on a follow up or charting seminars but for now, let's put what I learnt from you into practice!
Thanks Mel. Glad it was useful. And you were a great sport!
Richard writes:
Thanks for a fab session on Friday, after some hesitation to part with the money initially, I'd have to say it was well worth it, a really good insight in to how you do things and frankly if we all follow your example and advice, there is no reason why we should not end up in the money to some degree.
One of the things I realised about half way through, was that day trading is not a good occupation short term, though once someone builds up a stash of money as you have then it can become a good way to earn a living as you do, obviously you don't day trade but your level of expertise and your system of trading is well built up and reliable and we should seek to emulate that.
Yes, I sometimes have trouble parting with money Richard!
Phil writes:
Had to laugh when I read about your poncy experience at the hands of the stuffed shirts in Devon. You shoulda travelled a bit further to Falmouth in Cornwall.
We went to a Balti House on Saturday and had probably one of the best Rubys ever, cost for 4 hungry (not to mention thirsty) adults? £77. Yes - £77. And they gave us a glass of brandy at the end on the house.
Let me know if you come to Cornwall, I'll get a table booked .......
Thanks Phil, you are on my to visit list!
Shital writes:
I would like to personally thank you for a wonderful seminar yesterday. The time you spent with us through out the day was very valuable and I learnt constantly through the day.
It was worth every moment. Your trading skills and expertise goes along way and have learnt everything a new beginner needs to in the shares world.
I have learnt to be patient, calm and most of all not to be emotional, of course not to forget ALL the knowledge through out.
I could go on and on but a big thank you for being their until we needed you and the wonderful pizza.
Thanks Shital glad you feel inspired!
John writes:
Thanks for a great seminar last Friday, everyone I spoke to enjoyed it and marvelled at how you kept going so long; you certainly gave value for money.
If the seminar taught me anything it was how to trade in a more professional and detached manner. I realise up till now I was just playing at it.
Thank you once again for a fantastic day that will remain with me for the rest of my life.
Thanks John, though my wife sometimes complains I go on for too long.....

Markets
I notice chemical companies are going well so I went for the cheapest one I could find which is Yule Catto (YULC) getting 2,000 shares live at the seminar on Monday at 195.5 plus a £20 spreadbet at the same price.
Some really good figures coming from Yule Catto which makes chemicals which are used in many of the things we use at work and home. A nice surge through 200 should see 230 but I'm after 250 within a couple of months. Target 250 stop 177.
I noticed Mouchel Parkman (MCHL) has fallen to under 100 and I couldn't resist that - especially given the share has already been a bid target so as those who came to the seminar could see I picked up £30 on a spreadbet at 93 and 5,000 in real shares at 97.2. This proved an excellent buy as the share has already gone back up over 100. Target 160 stop 90.
I've also bought some Creston (CRE) - in fact looking at the trades I was the ONLY buyer before results getting 5,000 at 85.1. Results showed the company is now cash positive after making £28m on a sale. This makes it look extremely cheap now and with the debt gone makes it an interesting take over target.
At its current price and with an impressive list of top clients I think if I was a rival much bigger advertising firm I'd be snapping it up Creston at this sort of price. So while the price hasn't moved much on results I intend to hold this for a while as I think value will ultimately come out and there might be some decent upside. Target 140 stop 80.
I sold off two shares that I've been holding for some time!
I hadn't intended on selling PZ Cussons...I've held for a long time and indeed I was expecting to hold for another couple of years. But I sold because although results were excellent for right now after a massive rise of 100 points in just a few weeks the price looks up with events and so I'm banking profits, hoping to buy back again a little lower at some point.
I sold at 354.5 and 354 banking a lovely profit of £4,804 on the share positions and spreadbet. It's been a truly fabulous trade and it won't be long before I'm back in.
I also sold my SDL live at the seminar for 548 for a profit of £1,341 and the spreadbet at the same time at just under 547 for a profit of £3,960 to make a total profit of £5,301.
My reason is results are due and looking at it again it made an acquistion which won't benefit profits for quite a while, so as with PZ, I think shares are up with events and again I look to buy back a bit lower later this year.
Of course this is just my view and the market might disagree in which case I've sold off two decent shares too early. Still, very decent profits banked in both, indeed profits on both amount to a total of £10,105.
And sometimes, it is nice to get a big profit in the bank!
Good news abound around the portfolio.. where to start with plenty of my companies reporting!!
Pace produced a decent report and acquisition and has shot up giving me a very decent profit... I wondered about taking profits but I think there may be more there yet.
Volex produced another very decent update - a nice profit and that statement means I'm holding tight!!
Dialight's results were top notch.. excellent growth here justifying a more than double in price since I bought with huge profits building there now. And directors think there is more upside with some good buying yesterday. I've lifted the target here to 500 which I think it can get to based on current trading.
Long-termer Microgen produced another brilliant report - doubled on these after buying them at a seminar last year. It has tons of cash and will be returning some - really well done to this company.
African Aura too produced a decent and promising update but it seems to move very slowly, patience required I guess.
Star performer for this update goes to BTG Group - a fantastic lift over 200 - and great profits - this is one I won't be letting go of just yet!
Supergroup couldn't manage to get through 1000 after doubling but it's likely to have another go but what a terrible spread! Recent buy Mulberry has zoomed over 300 but couldn't quite hold there. Waiting for another attempt.
Nestor Healthcare is trying to crack zoomed up to 70 though it can't quite crack that yet - lovely performer this one now has profits of more than £13,000. Must be something good coming here judged from the trading. And there is already bid activity in the sector.
Devro hit 225 but slipped back from there but just a matter of patience for a ride up to 250 I think
IG Group reported brilliant results - seems to be growing in all areas - I was tempted to take profits but there looks to be more upside. It's growing nicely outside the UK.
Spice sits nicely higher after it rejected yet another bid this time at a higher price of the mid 60s. I reckon Spice topbrass are holding out for 75p a share which would suit me just fine!
Essar remains one I seem to struggle with, but I'll give it a bit more time just in case.
Lovely Petrofac has surged again heading for nearly 1300 and together with Enquest sees me sitting on profits way in excess of £20,000.
What can I say about XP Power except wish I hadn't taken profits along the way.... now nearly a four timer with massive profits.
Alternative Networks consolidates well after its recent rises. Micro Focus has slipped a bit - bit of a yellow card on that one for now.
Hyder produced a very strong statement and a potential bid looks like it's in there for nothing! It can't get through 350 but a bid could easily see 500.
Aggreko has seen a massive rise and it gets further bought every time it weakens - made a big amount here in a short time but I'm intending to stay with it during any dips like the last couple of days.
So again good progress with little work for me to do. I wonder whether perhaps this could be a nice quiet summer?
I've been getting e-mails regarding my use of direct market access and who I use. I've tried a few and for me the easiest system for me is here:
http://www.igmarkets.co.uk/?QPID=1079&QPPID=1
Direct market access means you can place orders directly onto the order book bypassing brokers and market-makers with a chance to buy at the "sell" price. I would suggest you ensure you know what you're doing first but IG does provide much education with its "tradesense" educational tool which comes with it.
I also use its spreadbetting service too along with other firms like Tradefair because it now provides trailing stops which to me is a pretty sensible way of trading. Link is here: -
http://www.igindex.co.uk/?QPID=1078&QPPID=1
that also includes a pretty decent educational programme. As usual before opening accounts please read all the warnings on the sites. You can lose a lot of money if you're not careful so pay close attention to them and make sure you always understand what you are doing and what your potential losses are.

I still get paid EVERY MONTH for sales I made back in 1999! Every time a customer uses broadband or the phone or switches on a light you get paid.
It's a great business and backed by a stock market company (Telecom Plus), a dedicated team of advisors.. and me to help you on your way!
Not only do you get paid out every month for each customer you can take on distributors. encourage them like I do and get paid on their sales as well.
One day, say you could made redundant, needed a year off or wanted to retire early can you imagine what joy it is to have the regular income coming in. It's wonderful.
You have to work at it, but if you do genuine repeat wealth could be yours. I did it. You can too. For full details, why not email me at robbiethetrader@aol.com.
An overview is also available at http://www.telecomplus.org.uk/fabdeal you can sign up directly there but do tell me!

Trade tables follow! Trades are current open and recently closed trades. Closed trades feature the closing price and the amount I won or lost. All others are open. Trades get updated a little later than the narrative. Trading costs are ignored, however I also do not add in dividend payments and with the kinds of companies I buy, dividends tend to equal or outweigh costs. Spread rollovers ignored for web purposes. Tables as accurate as poss however a mistake or two can creep in and very occasionally if I forgot I sold or bought something it will be added at a later time.
Trades first reported Weds and Fri afternoons under "Markets" section.. afraid I can't do live trades as that would turn me into a tipster and I'd have to be regulated!
