A fishy story

The all new edition of my book Naked Trader 3 is out now !!!

Markets change so I have learned a lot since 2007 and it is all in the new edition.

But lots of new strategies including my top 20, lots more mistakes to avoid, loads of new trader tales, cartoons and a bit of fun too.

Those who bought NT 2, there is plenty of new stuff in it for you and if you are a beginner, you can buy NT 3 without having to buy NT 2.

I hope you all enjoy it - and can tell I put a lot of effort into it and I really hope if it just stops one person from making the mistakes I did it will be worthwhile.

Indeed I hope the book is worth it even if you read about other people's stories, it is amazing how so many make exactly the same mistakes.

Anyhow if you buy it I hope you enjoy it! Click here:

Well that was a weekend I hadn't expected.

If you had told me I'd be sitting in hospital the night after the seminar with a doctor telling me I needed an operation immediately I'd have laughed!

This is the third time this year something horrible has happened the day after a seminar! The day after the next one, Jan 28th I am going to tread very very carefully...

Here is the bizarre story.

Had a brilliant seminar day, it ended up a fascinating day, and managed to make some live trades on the day, and plenty of great feedback, thanks to you all, more later.

Collapsed in a heap in bed at the hotel as the seminar ran on very late, so late I never even got a drink (I feel flattered) - Mrs NT called me in the morning asking what I fancied for dinner.

I said I'd eaten rubbish at the hotel for two days (pizza and chips anyone?) so how about something healthy like fish?

Got home, wrote up the notes on the seminar while all was still fresh in my mind and mailed them to the seminar delegates and then went to bed totally knackered out.

It's pretty tiring talking for 14 hours, juggling live markets, technology and answering questions...

Then at teatime I ate some of the seabass Mrs NT had bought which was fine.

Except... my throat felt funny and I realised I must have a fishbone stuck in there. I didn't think that much of it and tried drinking water to get it down. Then some dry bread and other attempts to get rid of it. No avail. Still, didn't worry me so much, I assumed it would go down.

But by 10pm it had become very uncomfortable and there was blood in my mouth and I started to worry. Stupidly I went on the internet and looked at some articles on it, which of course filled me with horror and I went down to A and E.

The usual blood pressure etc taken three times (why doesn't one person pass on the results to another?)

A throat specialist saw me and stuck a camera down there. This was via my nose and it was really horrible as you can imagine.

He looked serious. "It's a big one but it is stuck so far down I won't be able to get it out."

He then said the word "unfortunately" - this is not a word you want to hear in hospital.

"We are going to have to operate on you under a general anaestetic..."

I could hardly believe it. He wanted to admit me rightaway for an operation at 9am the next day but persuaded him to let me go home till the morning as I live just across the road.

At that point I had to sign disclaimers including that the operation could screw up my jaw, my teeth might me in danger and I hardly dared read the rest of it!

I went home crapping myself as you can imagine though I calmed down after a bit thinking, it'll be okay, it isn't a major operation after all.

I didn't sleep a wink all night. Arrived at the hospital, ended up in a ward in a bed ready for the op.

A different throat guy arrived. He said he didn't want to put me under unless he really had to, so was going to look at the bone himself to see if he could get it out using a local.

He adminstered various local anaestetic which was horrible - then he put his camera down there.

He couldn't see it! So I ended up in X-Ray to see where it was...

He said he'd know within 15 minutes. I waited over an hour fearing the worst...

He came back and said: "I can't possibly put you under unless I can see the bone..."

What relief! The chances were now the bone went down overnight, however becauuse it scratched my throat it would still feel like it was there for a few days.

He explained in some rare cases, a small part of the bone could still be there and if I could still feel something there after a week to come back.

But I was really lucky. If I had gone to casualty any earlier they might have operated on me rightaway that night - and unknown to me that operation and the risks involved would have been complete unnecessary.

I do read sometimes unnecessary operations take place. I also read today tons of operations are botched so I am just so relieved I didn't have to go through it.

So after a very traumatic few hours I was released at Sunday lunchtime. I could hardly believe my luck.

Poor old Mrs NT and Christopher of course were also really worried so it was a horrible time.

You can be sure I won't be eating any fish with bones in them for the foreseeable future.

And it happens a lot, says the hospital. Fish bone injury is more common than you imagine. Eating fish? Take care or you'll end up under the knife...

To be honest I still feel a bit traumatised by the whole thing, maybe that sounds like I'm a wimp.

The hospital? Mixed. Casualty continues to take records of blood pressure etc but the results are never passed on up the chain so time is continually wasted taking the same measurements time and again. I had mine taken 6 or 7 times.

Doctors/consultants? Well the Saturday night one was scary and he made an operation decision, a definite one. The Sunday one was way better.

The nurses? Glad to say, really excellent here. I have seen some bad ones in my time but these? Very good and caring.

That's my second visit to casualty this year and I am not going to make it a third! All I can say is I am mightily relieved now.

It is funny though, when a crisis occurs how nothing else much matters anymore except for getting better.

It makes you realise that any worries you have a very minor compared to a health crisis and that the lesson is not to worry so much about silly stuff.

Christopher is at school today as he is private.. he is off on a tour of a fire station! His school sent an email today "The staff pantomine is cancelled".

How could I resist sending the reply "Oh no it isn't" .....

I had an email which took me back to my working days!

"I've just bought a copy of the 3rd edition of your book. It was a pleasant surprise to find out you are the writer of the teletext soap which I avidly read between the ages of 12 and 15. Is any archive of the soap available as I would be interested to read it again?"

Gosh. Those were the days! This written soap went on air every day at 5pm and I used to start writing it 30 minutes before transmission .. well, I like a challenge.

Actually there is a mini archive of old episodes. Paramount bought the archive from me and after they had used it someone got hold of some of them, well the link is here!! (You can have a laugh on me if you want. But don't get hooked on it as I'm not writing any more!!!)

http://www.newmailbox.co.uk/parkavenue/default.asp

I just finished doing my VAT for the last three months, took me ages and ages to count, re-count re-check, fill out forms, get it right.

Then I thought I have spend hours as an unpaid tax collector for the government.. and the reason is? ..... I feel like sending an invoice to cover the time and hassle.

I really enjoyed the seminar on Friday and bowled over with the feedback I'm getting on this one.

I have to say I was pretty flattered when I looked up at 9pm and so many of you were still there. Indeed I think if I hadn't run out of steam at the amazing hour of 10.30pm some of you would have still been there in the middle of the night!

So thanks a lot for staying the course and for being such a great crowd.

Mark, thanks so much for the boots for me and Mrs NT. That was very kind of you indeed. Avi, thanks for getting the pizzas, that was so generous of you!

Well done to Paul who won the FTSE competition that ran throughout the event. Thank you all for some very intereresting contributions.

Glad also on the day there were some trades available to do live, and also some to place directly onto the market, and I think doing that seemed to help you.

A pleasure to meet some of you and chat over lunch and the breaks - what I love about trading is it is such a leveller and I love to see all kinds of people who wouldn't normally meet begin friendships and I know many have endured from seminars past, it is wonderful as trading at home can be a lonely business.

And the concentration from those of you who came was marvellous. I know I obviously make a profit from these events but the real reward for me is seeing people getting a greater understanding of the market. Realising it is not just about finding the right company it is all about timing.

And if I think, as I say on the day, that I help many of you to understand who your opponents are in the market, create a trading plan and avoid the silly companies and I know from emails afterwards you got this, that is a terrific reward.

I hope some of you go on to great trading success.

If you missed this seminar or couldn't make it, I've booked a date for the next one - the date is Friday January 27th.

Many of you said you couldn't make it in December so the end of January seemed a good date!

So booking for January's seminar is now open! The good news is as I am only just starting to take bookings there is a very decent early bird discount on offer!

For details on the new Jan 27th date , email me at robbiethetrader@aol.com with "seminar interested" in the subject line. I'll send you everything that I cover and all about the day itself.

Do not forget to claim the decent early bookers discount!

Beginners and improvers welcome! Come and spend the day with me, the markets and some lovely people - and of course, lunch!

If you mail me I will then send you details and a full agenda of what is covered. Also more details below somewhere.

My seminars are designed for beginners, dabblers and improvers and deals with everything from how to look for winners, how to research, spreadbetting, level 2 use how to time trades and short, how to use advfn properly and run your portfolio without having to spend money on systems and tipsters.. and tons more.

A lot of the day comes directly from the live markets and I show you many of the tricks I use to get good prices live. And there might even be the odd live trade or 2!

I get quite a few mails asking what magazines or news services I subscribe to etc. Well, hardly any!
However I do take (£8.99 a month though take the yearly option at 20% discount to that) a daily email which is my main source of news about such things as broker upgrades, main news items, analysis of stocks and markets, forthcoming company statements and events, stock recommendations and targets from the top brokers, what kind of earnings expected from companies and a whole heap more useful stuff.
I sometimes get ideas from this for companies to watch or monitor or even buy. And it's handy to get a summary of what the brokers are saying and looking at future earnings etc.
It usually arrives around 5ish every day.
I contacted the people that put it together and they offer a free 14 day trial of it to my readers - so you can cancel after 14 days if you don't feel it's useful enough.
Once you cut and paste this link into your browser, click "uk 14 days free trial" then I would go "yearly option" which gives a 20% discount making it just over £7 a month, as you can still cancel seems worth it. Hope you find it useful like I do. It's one of the few paid for news services that has really impressed.
http://bit.ly/eBPXuG

I do also get the Investors Chronicle delivered by the newsagent every Friday. It's always worth a read and brings to my attention things I may have missed.

An interesting email from a reader. The thrust of it was he was going to buy a share after doing a lot of research but then it went up 12% and he hadn't bought it yet. So he felt angry.
How does he stop/halt the feelings of anger?
Well, you have to take the emotion out of trading. Which isn't easy.
I suggested he should read this book.. by Jason Zweig
http://books.global-investor.com/books/256158.htm?ginPtrCode=10453
This is the one to read on psychology. Great read.

Spreadbetting firm Tradefair Spreads has upped its offer exclusively to Naked Trader readers to a £100 credit. This offer is exclusive to me and not available anywhere else...
I've been using them for a few weeks to check that I'm happy with the service. As you know I don't take ads or allow referrals on the site unless it's a company I've used and I feel confident about.
What I like about it is it's easy to use, spreads are surprisingly tight on the smaller companies and interestingly an automated stop loss is applied to each trade - so beginners know what their max loss is from the outset.
Anyway they now offer a £100 credit as long as you deposit £100. You get the credit after you placed 5 trades (Terms and conditions apply)
If you'd like to apply for an account with Tradefair Spreads and get the freebie click this link:

The number of emails to me is nearly reaching saturation point and I'm struggling! I'm getting 100s which is lovely in a way but killing me in another.
The main problem is the length of some of them, indeed some run to the length of novels, so, please, help save my eyes and please keep mails to under 150 words.. you can do it! It's close to the stage where I am going to have to say I will answer all mails but those over 200 words will get deleted. Keep them short and sweet, please!!
Also, it's possible the answer you seek from me is already in FAQ's. And do remember I can't discuss individual shares with you as it would be classified as investment advice which I'm not authorised to give.
Many of you enjoy the cheap advfn toplists bronze deal through me as do many of you with the cheap level 2. However many of you say you want a half-way house to include real-time share prices always on.
So I'm pleased to announce I've managed to seal a new deal with Advfn for its "Silver" service - that's always on real-time share prices for a good saving (Bronze toplists etc are included in this).
The deal is via me you can save £30 for your first year by paying just £138.06 inc vat via me instead of £167.47.
Just mail me for full details if you'd like it with "silver" in the subject line.

They've just re-published "The Zulu Principle" by Jim Slater who's written a 2008 update at the beginning.
This is a brilliant classic book. Reading this is a real pleasure and it was a great idea to republish.
Jim believes like I do the best gains can come from smaller stocks and in an easy to read style takes you through how to evaluate smaller companies that are about to become bigger ones - he uses some excellent examples.
Really this is a must read for all more longer-term investors or anyone looking to grow their money... a number of you have also written to me about this book and praising it.
Here is the link to buy it:

Here's a very topical one: The Little Book of Bull Moves in Bear Markets by Peter Schiff.
The book is all about how to keep portfolios up in a down market. He focusses a lot on how to play commodities and win with some sensible advice especially on natural resources and precious metals. He is very much a realist and there is no rubbish here: some straight talking and some interesting strategies.
Everyone who invests should think seriously about keeping portfolios up in bad times so this book should be read.
Well worth picking up at this link:

Several people have asked me for a recommendation on a book which shows how to study accounts in a reasonably easy way. The one I like the most is http://books.global-investor.com/books/15717.htm?ginPtrCode=10453 by Robert Leach. Ten crunch questions to ask before buying any company.
It' s a decent easy-to-read book with several key chapters and it's highly recommended. It's one I keep and dip into from time to time. To order, click this link... http://books.global-investor.com/books/15717.htm?ginPtrCode=10453
The best book on charting and easiest read on the subject is http://books.global-investor.com/books/15618.htm?ginPtrCode=10453 by Alistair Blair. Click here -> http://books.global-investor.com/books/15618.htm?ginPtrCode=10453
Another good one is the second edition of http://books.global-investor.com/books/23792.htm?ginPtrCode=10453 by Peter Temple. Included in this one is how to use spreadbetting, CFD's warrants and trackers to reduce risk. And there are some decent trading strategies too.
This is an excellent book for new investors and also experienced ones. It explains all the things you may not be sure about in the markets and will explain the tools that are there. Naked Trader Seminar Latest News

**** BOOKING FOR FRIDAY JANUARY 27TH NOW OPEN

Fancy spending a day with me, learning all the ways I have learned over the years to find good shares and play the markets? Well, you can at one of my seminars!
Booking is open for the Naked Trader seminar on Friday Jan 27th

Price is £550 plus vat. There is an early bookers discount available.
That includes three course lunch, coffees, snacks etc.
The seminar is mainly aimed at beginners and dabblers though improvers are welcome too.
Topics covered using live market feeds all day include: Market psychology, level 2 - a simple guide to how to use it for better timing; how to value companies; finding companies that are about to rise. I will also cover techniques for handling events such as the recent meltdown and volatility.
Spreadbetting: How to use it to gain an edge and go short. Market makers - how they work and how to beat them; how to stop losing money and make it instead and plenty more.
How to plan trade entries and exits - how to research companies and understand reports, plus all those niggly questions you always wanted to ask. How to set stop losses and targets. Charts and how to use them.
Also covered: Market maker tricks: How to spot tree shakes and use them in your favour, How to tell when NOT to buy a share. I use live ADVFN all day with lots of level 2 and looks at all kind of live market data.
The idea behind the seminar is SIMPLICITY. I don't use jargon or fancy words - everything is in PLAIN ENGLISH! No question is too stupid and the event is held in a friendly relaxed and supportive environment.
The idea is you will come away from the event I hope a wise and better investor with lots of new ideas. I try and translate complex topics into easy bite size pieces. I also aim for it to be entertaining as well as instructive.
If you are interested please e-mail me at robbiethetrader@aol.com with "seminar interested" in the subject line and I will send you full details of the event including comments from those who have come to previous seminars and you can then decide whether you would like to come. See you there!
One seminar attendee Clare wanted to write a testimonial about her experiences at the seminar which follows now!
"I've just come back buzzing from one of Robbie's seminars. What a day! He's just brilliant, and manages to pack an awful lot into one day, and with his enthusiastic and humorous delivery the day just flies by. There are no gimmicks, no sell, no "˜get-rich-quick' promises, just his own solid, sound approach which he has learnt over the years and which works.
He shows you how to minimise the risks and maximise the profits and points out the banana skins on the way. Where the seminar really comes into its own is when he teaches using live level 2. Hearing him talk through his thought processes and reasoning is invaluable, and really brings home everything from the book. He has endless patience answering peoples' questions, and really seems to care that everybody understands.
On top of that, you meet some really nice like minded people and swap e mail addresses, you're plied with
chocolates and coffee all day, have a great lunch and spend the evening getting tiddled with Robbie in the
bar afterwards! You might even get to see the amazing crocodile boots . . . .
Don't worry about the cost, it's easily worth it, and you'll soon make it back with your new-found investment skills, and in what you're no longer losing. If you're thinking of going along to his next seminar, whether you're a novice or an experienced trader, don't hesitate ""just go!
Thanks Clare, did you want the tenner in cash, or will a cheque do?

£100 Tradefair offer

I've started using Tradefair for spreadbetting - I like the auto generated stop losses which help to maintain discipline and that's good for beginners I think. And exclusively for Naked Trader readers they upped the offer to £100 credit.
So there's now a £100 credit on offer for anyone opening an account via me. You get that after 5 spreadbets (terms and conditions apply)

Naked Rambling

Goodness me, so much going on.. or is there?

Strikes on today. I think it's a disgrace that people should strike when the country is in trouble. They should continue to negotiate - strikes achieve nothing, just make things worse. Strikers should look at the leaders of their union and check how much they earn, their pension schemes and their very nice holidays...

Well, at least the Government told it like it is: basically we are in trouble along with everyone else. They are trying to do something about it but no guarantees. You would never have Gordon Brown saying that, he would always pretend everything was okay.

Be grateful Labour isn't still in power. Because if it was we would be in the same position as Italy with muh higher borrowing rates.

At least this lot has some kind of plan.

But It's still depressing to see so little real action for the economy. Sometimes you need to be daring in life.

I thought it was easy: A flat tax of 20% lower earners, 35% higher earners starting at £10,000. Betcha you'd end up not only taking more tax but you'd create growth, take fear away and give people an incentive.

I'd call it "have a go Britain". Work hard, keep more of your own money. Works elsewhere.
It's the silly party politics that stops it happening and the idea you should be jealous of the "rich" and tax them heavily.

I would say: let's all make a pact and stop moaning about everything. Let's get out there and make things happen. Stop talking ourselves into a recession.

PMQ's was a right sbambles today. All that silly shouting and schoolboy nonsense.

Surely it is time for a yellow and red card system? Two strikes and you are out and banned from the next session - it works in football! Otherwise it will just carry on week after week.

Did you catch the "Money" series in BBC2? Last night's focussed on "wealth creating seminars".

A clever show because it didn't in say Watchdog style go after those who host them, rather it allowed you to make up your own mind.

And it was pretty clear: Unfortunately the "wealth creators" appeared to be making money from the gullible. It was painful to watch.

Making them shout slogans out loud, promising to make them millionaires, idiotic exercises and meaningless waffle.

Of course all those the cameras followed on these courses turned out to be what you would expect: dreamers who think they will make money just by attending a seminar.

One simply thought if she left post it notes around her flat with "I will be a millionaire" on it, then it would happen.

What the seminars didn't seem to tell you was you really have to get out there and make it happen! Lucky me ended up a millionaire but believe me, an awful lot of effort went into that. I never did silly exercises. Of course most delegates paid thousands for these seminars with their credit cards. That those running the seminars allowed them in tells all.

I would never let anyone into one of mine with a credit card payment. If you go to a seminar and it is all high fives and promises of get rich quick, get the hell out fast and try to get a refund. I would never promise this at mine.

Looks like the two best looking blokes will be first and second in I'm A Celebrity which means the voters are nearly all young ladies I would imagine. Still, to be fair, they both seem nice guys so good luck to them.

Of course I would never dream of being jealous of their good looks and youth, that is something I would rise above, jealousy is a horrible emotion.... (the bas*****ds!!!)

The spreadbetting firm I use for sports betting is here:
Via this link Open a Sporting Index account and there's £100 cash offer - please check terms and conditions which apply.

http://www.sportingindex.com/?tpid=6755
Do remember if you do bet you ought to treat sports spreadbetting as entertainment - and expect to lose! Also with spreadbetting work out what your max loss could be and make sure you can afford it! In other words if you say backed the favourite at 15 for a fiver and they come nowhere your max loss is £75.

Naked Mail

Chris writes :
Chris the builder from sunny Wigan here, fan from day 1, (well about day 323 but who's counting eh?)

Anyway....I feel the need to say THANK YOU again for staring at me via (the first book) on Waterstones bookshelf on that faithful Christmas weekend a few years back, then the seminar at posh Heathrow that i drove to in my van! Ha!

Patience is free, watched my portfolio turn to poo, then back into gold, bought another house with profits, ISA is crammed with good earners, and KENTZ? Need I say another word? Here's one... wow, and another, did I mention thank you Mr Burns

Thanks Chris, I remember you well! In fact I remember you giving me some "humble builder" type nonsense and so glad you've done well and I helped with the book and the seminar. One thing you picked up is the ability to hold onto the good winners for yers to get the real rewards.

I'm happy for you. Great thing about trading is it doesn't matter who you are, what you do, or how you perceive your "status". We are all equals in trading and that is just great.

Duane writes:
Wanted to say a big thank you to you and Mrs NT for an amazing day of learning and fun at your seminar.

The way you explained the share trading from start to finish was understandable and really interesting, well worth the seminar fee!
It was great to hear such down to earth and honest assessment from a successful trader like yourself. The way you explained everything was good revision from your book and gave further insight into successful share trading.

I particularly liked your live trades and going through your accounts when you gave snippets of why you invested in certain shares and why you kept/dumped them. Also helpful was the way you searched for prospective shares and within minutes discounted them or put them on a short list for further examination and correct entry points. Amazing!
You could really tell that you loved doing what you do and your energy levels to keep going till 10pm was well....... I had to leave at 9pm I was shattered!

Thanks again Robbie I am keen to put into practice what you have taught me. Even though you make squillions from your trades and I am sure don't need to do the seminars for financial gain, but please keep doing those seminars for newbies like me!

Thanks Duane! Don't expect to be doing them foreever but very rewarding for me to help people so expect to carry on for a while longer.
Gabriel writes:
If you are reading this, you are perhaps considering going on one of Robbie's Seminars. You maybe asking yourself (like I did) the testimonials are all well and good but once the euphoria and excitement of attending a Seminar has died down ..... and I am back home in my normal routine and faced with the "graft" of putting it all into practice... will I become a better trader and be financially better off?
Let me tell you that in my case it certainly has!
Book your place pretty sharpish....... is what I say !

Thanks Gabriel!

Terry writes:
Fantastic seminar.

I have always been sceptical of the public testaments you see on web sites
saying how great an event was. Now I'm one of those people!. I
genuinely believe that the tips and techniques as well as the overall
approach you demonstrated will radically improve my trading performance

Thanks Terry, well all the testaments are real but know what you mean and glad you feel it was worth it!
Stephen writes:
I read your book and did the course - and I wasn't sure if I'd recoup the cost, it's been 2 years and I've made £38k + saved a loss transferring a Jupiter ISA heavily invested in BP. I can't tell you how important this is or how grateful I am. That's just me, who knows how much people have made with your help and saved by not making mistakes. I wanted to get into shares as they recovered after the crunch, but I assumed I had to put a large amount in one company I thought would make a big jump.
But what happens when you make £1m on the website, will you still do courses? I don't know how you do your ISA and SIPP investments, write the website, books, courses and answer e-mails. But please don't give it up. Couldn't you do the courses and have a standing website which gets updated with your trades say once a month so people can see what you do..

Stephen thanks so much for such a nice mail and much appreciated! Dunno about the future, I feel like I'm getting jaded. It's possible I might just reduce it all at some point to twice a month after going weekly - that would probably help. The other problem is other people's angst is getting to me and the email workload becoming overwhelming. I think after ten years it might be time for me to quit. Anyway good luck with your trades and hope you make a lot more.

I have 3 great offers from ADVFN.

ADVFN level 2 offer

SAVE OVER £120 !
First great deal: If you want level 2, though me it is only £305 for your first year including VAT!
This compares to £432 direct from advfn so this deal saves you over £120! ADVFN level 2 also includes all the live trades made through Plus Markets which I find invaluable.
To accept this great deal just e-mail me at robbiethetrader@aol.com with "Level 2 offer" in the subject line and I will tell you how to get it. Level 2 gives you access to all the market maker positions and the order book and I would not trade without it! More on level 2 in my book and I spend hours on it at my seminars.

Markets

I was saying at Friday's seminar that the markets always turn when you least expect it. Just when you feel you've had enough and never want to touch them again they turn.

Of course usually after you sold off and were mainly in cash! For example the markets turned in March 2009, no-one expected that. The more fear there is around and the more scared you are the more likely they are to turn. As I said, just after you decided: "I'm out!"

Well, they have turned this week and today banks across the world took coordinated action. Lending should be easier and so some of the fear currently in the markets could ease.

Of course the market has had a good run this week and could just as easily sell off again, I have no idea but at least and at last some action is being taken which might shore up share prices. So of course they may have made a turning point - but equally they may not!

Let's hope we see more bold action. If fear just goes, then the idiotic freeze in doing business will end.

Two trades I'd been patiently waiting for for some time both hit the kind of price area I was looking for, and they both as luck would have it, happened live at the seminar when I made both trades live.

At seminars I try and teach you must have a trading plan and try and stick to it. Often I devise a trading plan and wait patiently and often don't enter a trade for a long time until I am ready to execute it.

I've been waiting to repeat the successful recent trade in Dominos Pizza (DOM) for a while and patiently, very patiently was waiting for my trigger price to buy in, 383. Why?

Well I last traded this at exactly that price - and this is the price where so far it falls to then always rises. I always felt an easy trade.

If support at 380 fell that is bad news and I could simply exit the trade for a very small loss - however if the 380 support held, there could be another good upside and another very nice trade.

Amazingly it fell to 383 on Friday morning just as I brought it up live at the seminar so I gratefully bought in, at 384. I think someone asked a question and I missed the 383!. But a point higher will do.

My trading plan was to target the 450 area on this trade, however, even better if I could get nearer 500, we will see. At the moment the plan is already working well. The tough part will be if the price starts to fall half way through the plan, ie if it gets to 420 then falls. I could then take part profits - now it's all down to level 2.

I bought two tenners on a spreadbet live at the seminar and on Monday really went for it and in reality bought another £30 a point plus 1,000 shares !

Another one I was waiting for was a buy of Supergroup (SGP) in the 430s. And again it hit this price on seminar day so I bought in at 434 on a spreadbet.

Why? Several reasons. I think the fall is overdone, it only trades on my metrics very lowly, it has a huge cash pile and on the day of the last announcement it shot up to 700.

It fell because an analyst slapped a sell on it because it wasn't doing well on google. What kind of stupid reason is that? And it will only take someone to put out a buy note on it for it to whizz higher. I think all the bad news of warehouse problems and warm weather is easily in the price and it's worth nearer 600.

Finally there is big support in the low 430s so again a bet to nothing. If it falls much below 430, I'd have to agree something is wrong and take a small loss, but the risk reward ratio here is very much towards reward!

I've bought back Afren (AFR) this time at 78. I talked about this last time, with support at 75 it seems worth a try, targetting somewhere in the 90s this time. As an oiler of course there is risk to it.

I lost a few quid on SportingBet (SBT) last time I tried to trade it. I've tried a new entry point this time with a very tight stop so if it doesn't work out, should only be a small loss. Back in at 29.9 for 10,000 shares. They reported today, looks fine and undervalued but can there be much new downside?

And I've been wandering around a few bombed out shares and noticed out of favour Yule Catto (YULC) sitting near a low point. It looks mighty cheap now so I grabbed some at 152 and on a spreadbet at 153. They really can't be worth much lower and targetting a medium term rise nearer the 180-200 area especially if there is a santa rally.

I bought back into Gulf Keystone (GKP) on a spreadbet for £20 at 162. Bid rumours on this one which I take with a pinch of salt! And Dignity (DTY) looks in an 800-850 trading range, got some live at the seminar at 808 for a quick play to 840ish.

A funny tale to report, a "fat finger" trade by me has made me a profit I don't deserve! The Imagination short was going well, indeed it was at my target of around 400. I was too busy at the seminar on Friday and hadn't noticed as didn't get the time to look at it. However by Monday it was storming higher with the up market and I came out at 430 to take a small profit of £90 instead of the near £400 I could have had.

However today I suddenly saw Imagination was still in my spreadbet account. I thought "Bugger I thought I had closed it but I hadn't..." Then I saw I was long! Instead of closing the trade out for the same amount my fat finger must have "bought back" more than I had and so I was now long! Which was great as I am now up £1,300 by mistake. Obviously I won't add this total luck to the website and think I ought to close it soon anyhow and grab the profit! I've taken the last lot of profit on Chime at 183.75 for a profit of £2,452.

Right, time for a look at the portfolio highlights:

In general it has risen nicely again in the last week.

I guess this week's highlight is the wonderful
Coastal Energy which today has put out yet another encouraging drill report - yet more oil on the way by the look of it. And it has soared anoter 70p up to 900 !

This good news story just keeps getting better and better and I am looking for well over a tenner here, perhaps up to 1400 now - I've now pretty much doubled on the first buy not that long ago and nicely up on the topup. Fantastic share. I have roughly £70,000 ish worth in real life so this is going very well for me, and if it can double again from here I will be sitting pretty and tax free in the isa.

The Carpetright short continues to go very well, now collapsed to 400, still targetting 300 ish which would bring in a fantastic profit. Up a bit today of course with the market rally.

The Ocado short also continues to gradually drift down: I keep wondering whether to bank the rest of the Ocado short as there is a profit there of more nearly £4,000 It doesn't go up much with the main market but wonder if I am being too greedy expecting any further falls. Well, as it is still falling may as well try and get a bit more.

MS International has gone nicely higher after its excellent news last week.

Telecom Plus has soared to another high today - looks good, in particular the dividend rise of 25%. This is my big income earner, with more than £300,000 worth in real life the yield brings in a fantastic income every year - I should pick up around £13,000 in divs in the net year. Total profits here are well in excess of £90,000 and way more than that personally - plus all those lovely dividends.

A fantastic report from Kentz last week, all on track - some huge contracts, plenty of visibility, long-term work and a whole heap of cash - this ought to hold up if the market tanks further and still looks very cheap - I hope this will be a big winner in 2012. Stuck around 460 for the moment.

BTG is up and over three quid today and remains a nice doubler.
CML begins a rise again - and there are some hints in the statement that look interesting about next year, maybe something they can't explain fully but looks like there is some confidence about the markets they are in. I also wonder whether this looks like a potential takeover story, a bigger rival could easily buy this out for loose change.
Entertainment One looks like it will stay where it is for a bit. I actually think a bid is now in this one for next to nothing! To me the shares are pretty much worth 190-200 quid each without a bid and I would now imagine any bidder would have to pay nearer three pounds than 250.

Long-term superstar Dialight remains where it is for now. But it is in a rapidly growing market. Much is in the price admittedly but with patience there is a tenner to come. Well, I have been patient all the way from 150p to 750 and as those of you who have to my seminars have seen from my accounts my profits in real life are something like £70,000. For the website profits are more than £40,000 - and of course there have been dividends on top.

I tend to forget about little LOQ but it has made me some very super profits and indeed I haven't looked at it for months except noted the share price stays strong.

Overall I'm pretty happy with everything as it stands and some decent money has been coming in. I have no idea what happens next through and will try and go with the flow.
Biggest three winners in the portfolio are: (rough profits!)

1. Telecom Plus profit £92,000
2. Dialight profit £43,000
3. Microgen Profit £27,000

(which doesn't include thousands of pounds worth of dividends from all three!).

I've been getting e-mails regarding my use of direct market access and who I use. I've tried a few and for me the easiest system for me is here:
http://www.igmarkets.co.uk/?QPID=1079&QPPID=1
Direct market access means you can place orders directly onto the order book bypassing brokers and market-makers with a chance to buy at the "sell" price. I would suggest you ensure you know what you're doing first but IG does provide much education with its "tradesense" educational tool which comes with it.
I also use its spreadbetting service too along with other firms like Tradefair because it now provides trailing stops which to me is a pretty sensible way of trading. Link is here: -
http://www.igindex.co.uk/?QPID=1078&QPPID=1
that also includes a pretty decent educational programme. As usual before opening accounts please read all the warnings on the sites. You can lose a lot of money if you're not careful so pay close attention to them and make sure you always understand what you are doing and what your potential losses are.

£100 Tradefair offer

I've also started using Tradefair for spreadbetting - I like the auto generated stop losses which help to maintain discipline and that's good for beginners I think. And exclusively for Naked Trader readers they upped the offer to £100 credit.
So there's now a £100 credit on offer for anyone opening an account via me. You get that after 5 spreadbets (terms and conditions apply).

Trade tables follow! Trades are current open and recently closed trades. Closed trades feature the closing price and the amount I won or lost. All others are open. Trades get updated a little later than the narrative. Trading costs are ignored, however I also do not add in dividend payments and with the kinds of companies I buy, dividends tend to equal or outweigh costs. Spread rollovers ignored for web purposes. Tables as accurate as poss however a mistake or two can creep in and very occasionally if I forgot I sold or bought something it will be added at a later time.
Trades first reported Wednesday afternoons under "Markets" section..
